LUCKNOW, July 30 -- A 50-year-old government school teacher in Ballia was suspended after a Class 6 girl allegedly accused him of behaving obscenely with her over the past several days, prompting protests by villagers and parents outside the school and a departmental inquiry, basic education department officials said on Wednesday. District basic siksha adhikari (BSA) Manish Kumar Singh said the accused, Akshay Kumar Yadav, was posted at the upper primary school in Dankinganj village under the Pandah education block in the Pakri police station area. He was suspended on Tuesday night based on an inquiry report submitted by block education officer (BEO) Sunil Chaubey. According to the preliminary inquiry, the teacher allegedly took the student to the school's smart classroom on multiple occasions and behaved obscenely with her. The inquiry report, based on students' statements, alleged that he would take the girl alone every day and threatened to strike her name off the school rolls if she protested. The report further alleged that the teacher would quarrel with other staff members whenever they objected to his conduct. The allegations triggered protests by villagers and parents on Tuesday, who staged a road blockade on the Nagra-Sikandarpur road outside the school. Police and education department officials reached the spot, and the blockade was lifted after BEO Sunil assured protesters that action would be taken against the accused teacher. The BSA said the allegations appeared serious at first sight. Considering the safety and dignity of girl students and the academic environment of the school, the teacher was suspended and a departmental inquiry was ordered. BEO of Navanagar, Pankaj Kumar Singh, has been appointed as the inquiry officer and directed to submit his report within 15 days, the BSA said.(With agency inputs)...
