Pithoragarh, Feb. 16 -- Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on Sunday reopened the 36-km-long Gunji-Jolingkong motor road leading to Adi Kailash, restoring connectivity in the high Himalayan region after weeks of closure due to heavy snowfall. The road, located at an altitude of around 14,500 feet, had remained closed since January 23 after being buried under more than 10 feet of snow, BRO officials stationed at Gunji said. Col Prashant Singh, commander of the BRTF under BRO, said the snow clearance operation was carried out with the help of five JCB machines and local labourers. "Despite extreme weather conditions and temperatures dropping to minus 15 degrees Celsius, our teams worked continuously to remove the accumulated snow and reopen the route," he said. htc...
