B'deshi woman, aide held for illegal stay
Haridwar, April 10 -- A Bangladeshi woman staying illegally in India using forged identity documents was arrested along with a man who allegedly helped her obtain the fake papers in the Jwalapur area of Haridwar district on Thursday, police said.
A joint team of Jwalapur Police Station and the Local Intelligence Unit nabbed the woman from Vaishnavi Enclave near Ramanand Institute in suburban Jwalapur.
According to SSP Haridwar Navneet Singh Bhullar, the arrested woman has been identified as Sahela Begum (41), a resident of Holidays area in Kumila Sadar, Bangladesh, who had allegedly been residing illegally in Jwalapur for the past few years with the assistance of a local resident.
"The woman was living illegally in Jwalapur and was assisted by Shyam Das (45), a native of Kharkena village in Vilaspur district of Chhattisgarh, who is currently residing in the same enclave. Both have been arrested by the police team," Bhullar said.
Police said that several forged Indian documents were recovered from the woman's possession, including an Indian passport, Aadhaar card, driving licence, marriage certificate and PAN card. Her Bangladeshi passport and national identity card were also seized.
Bhullar said that in 2023 Sahela Begum separated from her husband and was facing financial difficulties when she came into contact with Shyam Das through social media.
"Sahela arrived in India on a 90-day stay in Delhi, where she stayed with Shyam Das and later came to Haridwar. Shyam Das helped her obtain all fake documents required to pose as an Indian citizen," said Bhullar....
