LUCKNOW, Aug. 8 -- An auto-rickshaw driver was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl at her house in the Hazratganj area, police said on Friday. According to police, the accused, identified as 30-year-old Monu Kashyap, allegedly visited the girl's house when her father was away and sexually assaulted her. The girl told police that she had resisted his actions, but the accused allegedly threatened to kill her father if she told anyone about the incident. The child, who had remained silent out of fear, eventually told her father about the alleged abuse on August 5, (Wednesday) following which he informed the police. "A complaint was received through 112 and the police team immediately reached the spot. On the basis of the girl's statement and information provided by her father, a search was launched for the accused. He was subsequently traced and arrested on Friday near Ekta Van in Dalibagh," Hazratganj SHO Vikram Singh said. Police said the accused was found on an isolated road near Ekta Van following a search of possible locations. He was taken into custody and questioned in connection with the allegations. The girl was also quest- ioned in the presence of appropriate authorities and her statement was recorded, police said.
