Attack on Pratapgarh family, two accused arrested, case lodged
PRAYAGRAJ, March 8 -- Tension erupted in Parsad village under the Aspur Devsara police station area after villagers allegedly caught two men attempting to attack a youth, beat them severely and later handed them over to the police.
The incident, which occurred on Friday afternoon, came to light after a video showing the two men tied to a tree went viral on social media the next morning.
According to residents, the trouble began on Friday when six men arrived on two motorcycles at the house of Guddu Harijan and allegedly started looking for his son.
When they found him, they assaulted him. His mother, Asha Devi, intervened but was also beaten.
Hearing the cries, neighbours rushed with sticks. Four attackers fled, but two were caught, tied to a tree and beaten by villagers. A bike and an airgun were recovered. Police were alerted via Dial 112 and the Aspur Devsara police station.
Police reached the spot and took the two men into custody. A case has been registered against Shubham Patel of Bahuta Shubham of Govindpur and Sachin, Ajit, Pramod and Shubham Saroj of Ramaipur under serious charges, including sections related to offences against Dalits.
SHO Rakesh Chaurasia said a case has been registered under multiple sections, including those pertaining to Dalit harassment, and further investigation is underway....
