LUCKNOW, July 21 -- Lucknow Police, on Sunday, arrested five members of a notorious interstate ATM card swapping gang who posed as customer helpers at ATMs to carry out their crimes. The gang was caught red-handed on July 19, 2025, near Ghazipur on LDA Road. Police recovered a fake POS machine, several mobile phones, Rs.5090 in cash, and a fraudulently obtained vehicle from their possession, said police officials. The gang operated across multiple states-including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, and the NCR-using similar tactics to deceive ATM users. The accused have been identified as Khursheed Shukla from Rewa, Madhya Pradesh; Mahesh Yadav from Jaunpur; and Rohit Singh, Shivpratap Singh, and Faizan Singh-all residents of Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh. According to police, the gang members would loiter near ATMs and approach unsuspecting users under the pretense of offering help. While pretending to assist, they would observe and note the user's PIN and then swap the original ATM card with a duplicate.
