Lucknow, Aug. 26 -- Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly has proposed to take legal opinion on the petition, if received, about restoring the membership of disqualified Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) MLA Abbas Ansari. Ansari was disqualified as an MLA following his conviction in a hate speech case earlier this year on May 31. "We have not yet received any request on the issue. The Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly has no role to play in the disqualification or restoring the membership following disqualification. "We will take a legal opinion if we receive any petition on the issue," said speaker Satish Mahana. The Allahabad high court recently stayed Ansari's conviction in the hate speech case. Senior advocate Upendra Upadhyay, when asked about the next course of action, said a petition seeking the restoration of Ansari's membership was being filed before the assembly secretariat....
