Artists regale tourists after 12 yrs at Autumn Festival in Mussoorie
Mussoorie, Oct. 9 -- Traditional folk artists from Jaunpur and the Jaunsar region of Garhwal regaled tourists with scintillating performances at Gandhi Chowk terrace in Mussoorie during the ongoing five-day Autumn Festival, being organised by the Mussoorie Municipal Board in association with the state government.
An all-female dance troupe from Jaunpur presented several Jaunsauri numbers in traditional attire on Thursday, drawing appreciation from tourists gathered at the venue.
Several other events, including hybrid games, a football tournament, karate and chess competitions, and a musical presentation themed "Mussoorie Melodies", were organised at different locations as part of the festival.
The food stalls showcasing traditional cuisine of the state emerged as another attraction. Tourists sampled delicacies including Mandua Pizza, Pahadi Dal Pakoras and Rotana Crispy, a sweet dumpling.
Meera Saklani, president of the Mussoorie Municipal Board, said the five-day festival, which began on October 6, was being organised after a gap of 12 years with the theme of promoting the town's culture and local talent.
She said the festival was also focusing on making local cuisine and delicacies key attractions of the event.
So far, Padma Shri awardee Basanti Bisht and Garhwali rock band Pandavas have performed at the festival. Musical evenings during the event will feature Kuldeep Sharma, known as the "Nati King", besides a Qawwali performance by Farhan Sabir and a performance by folk artist Preetam Bhartwan, Saklani said....
