Arrest in fake currency racket exposes SP's true character: UP BJP chief
Lucknow, April 2 -- Uttar Pradesh BJP president and Union minister of state for finance Pankaj Chaudhary on Wednesday attacked the Samajwadi Party following the arrest of a party leader allegedly linked to a fake currency racket, saying the episode had once again exposed the party's "true character."
Chaudhary said those involved in circulating counterfeit currency were not merely criminals but represented an "anti-national mindset" as such activities directly undermined the country's financial system, internal security and public trust. He alleged that repeated statements from SP leaders about withdrawing cases against accused persons if voted to power raised serious concerns about the party's intent.
"The people of Uttar Pradesh want to know whether such a policy would also benefit those accused of damaging the nation's economy through illegal activities like fake currency," he said. Accusing the SP of historically sheltering criminals, Chaudhary said the party's "soft approach" towards offenders, including those linked to economic crimes, reflects its political culture.
He added that in a democracy, the Opposition was expected to prioritise national interest, but alleged that the SP remained focused solely on power. Chaudhary asserted that voters in 2027 would deliver a decisive verdict, reiterating their preference for development, governance and security over what he termed "lawlessness and disorder."...
