MEERUT, Sept. 26 -- A two-day joint training and clinical screening camp aimed at strengthening rehabilitation and inclusive education for children with special needs was inaugurated at Military Hospital (MH) Meerut on Friday. The joint training-cum-screening camp was organised by MH Meerut and ASHA School under an MoU signed in June between Headquarters Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand Sub Area, Dr Shakuntala Mishra National Rehabilitation University (DSMNRU), Lucknow, and MH Meerut. Brigadier S K Singh, Deputy General Officer Commanding and Station Commander, Meerut Military Station, inaugurated the programme at the MH conference hall. "Children with special needs do not need sympathy but a scientific approach, modern technology and proper guidance," Singh said. He added that the collaboration would provide advanced training to special educators and therapists working in ASHA schools. Teachers from remote ASHA schools have also connected through the WebEx platform. The first day's sessions covered visual impairment, hearing and speech disorders, autism spectrum disorder, specific learning disabilities, cerebral palsy and Individualised Education Plans. The second phase will be held at ASHA School on Saturday. Five specialised clinics will screen more than 180 children and their parents for audiology, vision, cognitive assessment, prosthetics and orthotics, and UDID registration.
