arms supplier, aide arrested with pistols in Rudrapur: Cops
Rudrapur, March 17 -- A 24-year-old alleged illegal arms supplier has been arrested after a brief encounter in Rudrapur of Udham Singh Nagar on Sunday and nine pistols and 18 cartridges were recovered from his possession, police said on Monday, adding that his associate was also nabbed with an illegal pistol, said police.
The accused, identified as Bunty Koli, a resident of Rampura colony in Rudrapur received injuries in his left leg during gunfight. Police were looking for him after two men were arrested with three illegal pistols on Friday. They revealed that the arms were delivered by Koli.
US Nagar SSP Ajay Ganpati said: "The SOG and STF of Police arrested two illegal arm suppliers on Friday in Rudrapur. They revealed that the arms were supplied by Bunty Koli. Since then police had been looking for him. On Sunday, Police received information that he is coming near Modi Maidan to supply illegal arms. Police cordoned off him and nabbed after a brief encounter." On Friday, police and STF had nabbed Jitendra Veerat Chaudhary of Dibdiba village in Bilaspur tehsil of Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh of Transit camp colony in Rudrapur.
"Police were looking for him since then on Sunday evening police received information that Koli was coming near Modi maidan on Kichha bypass to deliver illegal arms in the evening of Sunday. On seeing the police team, he fired four rounds on them. Police also fired on him and he received injuries on his left leg," the SSP said.
He added that Koli's associate Manoj Kumar, 22, a resident of Chandain village in Rampur district, was also arrested. Police recovered seven pistols of 315 bore, 16 cartridges of 315 bore, a pistol of 12 bore, a cartridge of 12 bore and a pistol 0.30 bore and a bike from Koli. Police recovered an illegal pistol of 315 bore and 10 cartridges from Manoj.
Police had registered several cases on Koli like attempt to murder, Arms Act, threatening and other. The Goonda Act was imposed on Koli and was extended for three months in September, 2024, SSP Ganpati said....
