Anup Jalota: 'Naushad saheb loved his Nakhlau a lot'
India, March 24 -- Singers Anup Jalota and Surabhi Ranjan were presented with the Naushad Samman during the Awadh Festival for Indian Army held at Khel Parisar, Cantonment, on Sunday.
The General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Central Command, Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, gave away the awards in the presence of General Officer Commanding, Madhya Uttar Pradesh Sub Area (MUPSA), Maj Gen Maneesh Kukrety, and the organiser Zafar Nabi.
On public demand, Jalota presented a few songs on the occasion, which included the famous bhajans Aisi Laagi Lagan and Achyutam Keshavam, along with film songs Main Shayar to Nahi and Jeena Yahan Marna Yahan.
He tells HT City, "Naushad saheb, with his musical talent, spread the name of Lucknow to the entire world, that too in that era. I used to meet him often in Mumbai. He would shower his blessings on me and say, 'Nakhlau ke naam ko roshan kar rahe ho.' He was very proud of being a Lucknowite and of the city's culture. It's an honour to receive such a prestigious award in his name, presented by UP Sangeet Natak Academy, UP Tourism Department and Hunar Creations and Craft Association."
The singer couple Samir-Dipalee Date, along with singer Bisroop Banerjee, Samarjeet Randhawa, Sirsshhaa Rakshit, Deepanshi Yadav and drummer Tanmay Mukherjee were awarded the Shaan-e-Awadh title. They also gave musical performanc-es in front of a large audience comprising army personnel.
