ANN intensifies anti-pollution drive; cracks down on commercial units
AGRA, Nov. 2 -- The Agra Municipal Corporation (Nagar Nigam) has launched an intensified campaign to combat rising air pollution levels in the city. Municipal commissioner Santosh Kumar Vaishya emphasised that maintaining cleanliness and controlling pollution remain the corporation's top priorities.
As part of these efforts, municipal teams have begun raiding commercial establishments found using coal as fuel in their furnaces, a direct violation of National Green Tribunal (NGT) norms. During a crackdown on Saturday, authorities dismantled four such furnaces along Fatehabad Road and imposed penalties totaling Rs.1.70 lakh.
In addition to enforcing environmental regulations, the corporation has initiated a special cleaning drive across the city. According to assistant city commissioner Ashok Priya Gautam, statues and structures located at "selfie points" and footpaths are being cleaned using high-pressure machines as part of the "Waste to Wonder" project.
The municipal commissioner confirmed that regular cleaning at public spaces will continue to be a key component of the ongoing efforts to improve air quality and urban hygiene.htc...
