Lucknow, Nov. 1 -- Days before the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls starts on November 4, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yaedav has demanded the inclusion of a separate caste column in the SIR form. This "primary caste census" will help in better implementation of government schemes for the Dalits, backwards and the underprivileged, he said at a press conference at the Samajwadi Party headquarters in Lucknow on Friday. "When SIR is happening in Uttar Pradesh, it is a big exercise where officers of the government will visit all the households and connect with the voters. We demand that one more column for caste should be increased in the SIR (form) so that a primary caste census can be done. In future, this will help in better implementation of government schemes for the underprivileged, he said. "If this column is added during the SIR and caste enumeration takes place, it will make it easier for us to establish a state rooted in social justice," he added, expressing hope that the government would accept the suggestion. His statement has drawn condemnation from deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak. "It is very unfortunate that the SP chief has given such a casteist statement against SIR. Opposing SIR means opposing a transparent list being prepared by the Election Commission of India. The SP wants to win elections in UP with the help of intruders. They want to win elections on Muslim appeasement. Akhilesh Yadav should apologise to the people of the state," Pathak said. Speaking to the media, Yadav said his party will ensure a university in the name of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel when it comes to power in the state. Meanwhile, Yadav will hold election rallies in support of INDIA bloc candidates as he begins his Bihar assembly poll campaign from Saturday with three election rallies. The first rally will be held in Dhamdaha in Purnia district, the second in Baburahi in Madhubani district and the third in Bahadurpur constituency of Darbhanga district. On Sunday, Yadav will address an election rally in support of Arvind Sahni in Sarai Ranjan constituency of Samastipur district. The same day he will seek votes for Sunil Kushwaha in Sitamarhi constituency and Khesari Lal in Chhapra constituency of Saran district. On November 3, he will address election rallies in East Champaran, Siwan and Kaimur districts. On November 4, he will address public meetings in Rohtas, Aurangabad and Gaya districts. On November 5, he will address election public meetings in Nawada, Jamui, Banka and Bhagalpur districts....
