PRAYAGRAJ, June 25 -- Air travellers from Prayagraj may face reduced connectivity to Mumbai from July 1, as Akasa Air is likely to discontinue its daily Mumbai flight service from the city and instead operate it only one day a week on Mondays. If the daily service is withdrawn, no flights will operate from Prayagraj Airport on Saturdays, officials said during a meeting of the Airport Advisory Committee held at a hotel in Civil Lines on Wednesday. The development prompted concern among committee members, who sought an explanation from the airline regarding the proposed suspension of operations. The meeting was chaired by MP Praveen Patel and MLA Sidharth Nath Singh. Akasa Air station manager Mohd Asif informed members that the airline had decided to discontinue the service following a steep rise in aviation fuel prices during the conflict in West Asia. Responding to the explanation, Singh said the situation had since stabilised and urged the airline to reconsider its decision. Akasa Air representatives said the matter was under review, but no fresh orders had been issued so far. Prayagraj Airport earlier had regular air links with several major cities, but connectivity has reduced significantly in recent years. At present, Mumbai is the only destination with daily flight services, while flights to Delhi operate six days a week. Regular services are now available to only six cities, including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar and Bilaspur. During the meeting, Patel said he would soon meet the Union Civil Aviation Minister to press for the expansion of air connectivity from Prayagraj. He noted that there has been a longstanding demand for direct flights from the city to destinations such as Kolkata, Pune and Dehradun. The MP also held discussions with officials of IndiGo, Akasa Air and other airlines regarding the introduction of additional flight services from Prayagraj. Among those present at the meeting were Airport Director Rajesh Chawla, Airport Advisory Committee members Ravi Mohan Mishra, Aniruddh Pratap Singh and Harjinder Singh, ADM (city) Satyam Mishra, IndiGo station manager Rohit Singh, Akasa Air station manager Mohammad Asif, Alliance Air representative Mukesh Jaiswal, Shyam Kartik, and officials from the Indian Air Force and the Airports Authority of India....
