Ajay Rai writes to guv
LUCKNOW, July 24 -- Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai on Thursday said he has written a letter to governor Anandiben Patel, urging her for protecting rights of students.
In the letter, he has urged the governor, who is also the chancellor of state universities, to direct the state government to prioritise regularisation of the university buildings and adopt a balanced approach that safeguards students' interests while preserving the dignity and continuity of higher education in UP.
The Congress leader said the issue concerns the university's academic dignity, future of thousands of students, and the protection of constitutional values.
According to Rai, educational institutions are not the property of any government, political party or individual, but are part of nation's intellectual heritage and must be protected irrespective of changes in governments.
"Any alleged violations related to building construction should be addressed through legal procedures and regularisation," he added. Citing Article 30(1) of the Constitution, Rai said minority communities have the fundamental right to establish and administer educational institutions. He said even in cases of alleged irregularities, the principles of natural justice, proportionality and public interest must be upheld. htc...
