Ahead of Ram temple visit, Congress claims UP chief Ajay Rai put under house arrest
AYODHYA, June 30 -- Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Ajay Rai was allegedly placed under house arrest at a hotel in Ayodhya district on Monday evening ahead of the party's proposed visit to the Ram Temple on Tuesday over allegations of embezzlement of funds in the temple project, party leaders claimed. According to the Congress, Rai was scheduled to lead a delegation comprising Amethi MP Kishori Lal Sharma, Sitapur MP Rajesh Rathore, Allahabad MP Ujjwal Raman Singh, Barabanki MP Tanuj Punia, former Barabanki MP P.L. Punia, former Amethi MLC Deepak Singh, and other party leaders.
"State president Ajay Rai was supposed to offer prayers at the Lord Ram Temple on Tuesday as part of a delegation comprising MPs and MLAs. He reached Ayodhya on Monday evening but was placed under house arrest," Congress spokesperson C.P. Rai claimed. The UPCC had called upon party workers from all districts to reach Ayodhya on Tuesday.
Earlier, Ajay Rai had written to the district administration seeking security arrangements for the visiting leaders. htc...
