AGRA, July 23 -- A Special Court (SC/ST Act) in Agra has sentenced a woman, her paramour and an accomplice to life imprisonment for the 2021 murder of her husband. The proceedings, which concluded recently, covered charges of murder, destruction of evidence, and violations of the SC/ST Act, originally registered at the Tajganj police station. The primary accused, Premita, also known as Pramita, was named in a complaint lodged on June 8, 2021, by the victim's father, Suresh Chand. Chand alleged that his son, Naresh Kumar, had been murdered and his body discovered stuffed in a sack and abandoned on an open plot of land near their residence. Naresh Kumar, who operated a shoe factory in Agra, was killed following a conspiracy between his wife, Premita and her paramour, Ravi Kant. They were assisted by Shashi Kant, Ravi Kant's brother, who travelled from Firozabad to participate in the crime. Judge Shiv Kumar of the Special Court (SC/ST Act) found Premita guilty under sections 302/34 (murder) and 201/34 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. The two accomplices, Ravi Kant and Shashi Kant, were also found guilty under these sections, in addition to provisions of the SC/ST Act. The court sentenced all three to life imprisonment and imposed a collective fine of Rs.80,000. During the trial, 10 witnesses were examined. While the victim's father provided crucial testimony regarding the circumstances of the murder, the most decisive evidence came from the couple's daughter. Although she was only 10 years old at the time of the incident, her testimony described how her mother had locked the three children in a room on the night of the crime.
