Agra court acquits MLA Chaudhary Babulal, 11 others
AGRA, Sept. 18 -- A court in Agra on Wednesday acquitted Fatehpur Sikri MLA Chaudhary Babulal and 11 others in a case lodged after a protest over the electrocution of a youth in 2012. The court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge (Court No 19), Lokesh Kumar, gave the benefit of doubt to all the accused.
The case was registered at Kirawali police station under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including rioting, attempt to murder, assault on public servants, wrongful restraint, and criminal intimidation, along with provisions of the Criminal Law Amendment Act.
The incident occurred on April 2, 2012, when Hakim Singh of Rithari village died of electrocution while watching a wrestling competition from his rooftop.
Another villager, Javed Khan, suffered injuries while trying to save him. Hakim Singh was taken to a hospital in Kirawali, where doctors declared him dead.
Following the death, MLA Babulal and others allegedly carried the body to the highway and blocked traffic in protest. Police said the crowd turned violent, pelting stones and bottles at security personnel who tried to clear the road. A case was then filed against 12 people, who have now been acquitted due to a lack of sufficient evidence....
