Lucknow, Aug. 8 -- Driven by an active cyclonic circulation, a robust monsoon flow has significantly improved Uttar Pradesh's seasonal rainfall, dragging the state's rain deficit back into the 'normal' category. The overall state deficit plummeted from 29% on Monday to just 19% by Friday morning, according to seasonal rainfall distribution data released by the Regional Meteorological Centre, Lucknow. Meteorological authorities forecast that this strong monsoon activity will persist, bringing isolated heavy rainfall particularly over southern UP over the next four to five days, with western UP expected to see heavy showers in the next 24 hours. Since June 1, the state has recorded 331.3 mm of rainfall against a long-period average of 409 mm - a 19% deficit. However, the distribution remains uneven, with Western UP faring significantly better than its eastern counterpart. East UP saw 325.6 mm rainfall against the normal 436.7 mm with a deficit of 25% while West UP region received 339.3 mm rain against the normal 370.3 mm with a deficit of 8%. In the last 24 hours, Gunnaur (Sambhal) met observatory recorded very heavy rainfall (134 mm) while heavy rainfall took place at Narora (Bulandshahr) 110.4 mm, Raath in (Hamirpur) 93 mm, Kalpi CWC (Jalaun) 86.8 mm, Khekda (Baghpat) 84 mm, Shikohabad in (Firozabad) 76 mm, Charkhari (Mahoba) 74 mm and Jansath (Muzaffarnagar) 67.6 mm. A yellow alert for heavy rainfall was issued in 24 districts, including Shamli, Baghpat, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Mathura, Hathras, Kasganj, Etah, Agra, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etawah, Auraiya, Amroha, Sambhal, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jhansi, Lalitpur, and surrounding areas, for Saturday. During the last 24 hours, Lucknow recorded 7.1 mm rain with Hanuman Setu observatory seeing 23.6 mm, control room at Aliganj 15 mm rainfall, Malihabad 2.5 mm, Mohanlalganj 1.2 mm a trace of rainfall at Amausi airport.
