After confinement, Ajay Rai offers prayers in Ayodhya
Ayodhya, July 1 -- Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai, who had alleged he was kept under "house arrest" for over 24 hours, was allowed to offer prayers at Hanumangarhi and the Ram temple late on Tuesday night after the Ayodhya administration lifted the restrictions.
Speaking to reporters after offering prayers, Rai sharpened his attack over the alleged embezzlement of devotees' donations at the Ram temple, alleging that "big people are being protected" and that the investigation was not impartial. "Action is being taken only against small people. The office-bearers of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust should also be investigated," he said.
Demanding that the Trust be dissolved, Rai said it should be reconstituted with representation from Shankaracharyas, saints and Ayodhya residents. "The administration stopped me, but I returned only after offering prayers.
Lord Ram will punish those who indulge in corruption," he said.Earlier in the day, Rai claimed police had forcibly shifted him around midnight from his hotel in Ayodhya to the guest house of Acharya Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology at Kumarganj, about 60 km away, after he announced a visit to the temple.
He alleged he was confined there under police watch, while Congress leaders travelling to Ayodhya were also stopped or detained.
A Congress delegation led by Rai was scheduled to visit the Ram temple on Tuesday amid the ongoing controversy.
The delegation included MPs Kishori Lal Sharma (Amethi), Rakesh Rathore (Sitapur), Ujjwal Raman Singh (Prayagraj) and Tanuj Punia (Barabanki).
Amethi MP Kishori Lal Sharma, in a video message, claimed he too had been stopped from visiting the temple.
"They could not stop the theft of donations, but they have stopped us Hindus from offering prayers. What kind of Sanatan tradition prevents devotees from having darshan?" Sharma said.Prayagraj MP Ujjwal Raman Singh was allegedly prevented from leaving his Ashok Nagar residence for Ayodhya. His representative, Vinay Kushwaha, claimed police personnel had been stationed outside the residence since morning and did not allow the MP to leave, without formally informing him whether he was under house arrest or detention.Congress workers staged protests outside the guest house and in Ayodhya, where several leaders and workers were detained after attempting to march towards the Ram temple....
