Adya Bhatnagar upsets seeded Geetika Saraswat in pre-quarters
LUCKNOW, May 27 -- Uttar Pradesh's Adya Bhatnagar on Tuesday secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the AITA CS-7 Under-18 Boys and Girls Tennis Tournament, registering an upset victory over eighth-seeded Geetika Saraswat 6-4, 6-4 in the girls' singles.
In boys' singles, seventh-seeded Virat Singh advanced to the final eight by defeating Dhruv Singh 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 in a thrilling match that went all the way to a super tie-break. The second-seeded Anuruddh Kumar, third-seeded Mehar Singh Khosla, and fourth-seeded Vanshraj Jalota also secured their places in the final eight with stellar performances.
While players from UP dominated the girls singles category, second-seeded Manusmriti Singh from Madhya Pradesh also registered a victory to advance to the next round.
In the boys singles pre-quarters, seventh-seeded Virat Singh defeated Dhruv Singh 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 in a super tie-break. Top-seeded Faiz Kidwai defeated Satvik Gupta 6-3, 6-3. Third seeded Mehar Singh Khosla defeated Devansh Vij 6-4, 6-3 in a thrilling encounter, while second-seeded Anuruddh Kumar secured his spot in the final eight by defeating Pranav Sharma 6-2, 6-2.
In other matches, fourth-seeded Vansharaj Jalota defeated Mohammad Ariz 6-2, 6-2, fifth-seeded Ankit from Telangana beat Ashwin Chauhan from Uttarakhand 6-3, 6-2, Rohin Raj defeated Aditya Vaibhav 6-2, 6-0 and and Nipun Chauhan from Maharashtra defeated Rishant Jaiswal 7-5, 6-2.
In the girls singles pre-quarterfinals, fourth-seeded Tashi Kiran beat Pavani Shukla 6-2, 6-0, whereas top-seeded Niti Santosh Dubey overcame Adya Singh 6-1, 6-4. Third-seeded Aira beat Sanskriti Gautam 6-2, 6-3, while sixth-seeded Vanisha Jadoun brushed aside Avni Bhatia 6-3, 6-4.
In other matches, seventh-seeded Aashi Shamsheri beat Aashi Kiran 6-1, 6-0, Shripriya Singhal beat Raminderdeep Kaur 6-2, 6-4, and second-seeded Manusmriti Singh from Madhya Pradesh beat Ananya Singh 6-0, 6-0 to advance to the quarterfinals....
