PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 8 -- Advocates staged a demonstration at the police headquarters on Monday, demanding the arrest of an accused hotel operator in an assault case registered last week. The lawyers alleged that despite an FIR being lodged, police had failed to arrest the accused, leading to widespread resentment within the legal fraternity. Raising slogans and submitting a memorandum, the advocates urged the police administration to take swift action in the case. According to the protesters, a hotel operator was booked last week for allegedly assaulting an advocate. Police Commissioner Piyush Mordia met representatives of the advocates and assured them that action would be taken soon. He said the investigation was underway and that the accused would be arrested at the earliest in accordance with the law. Following the assurance, the protesting advocates called for expedited police action while warning that they would intensify their agitation if the arrest was further delayed. According to the complaint, advocate Vishnu Pandey had gone to a hotel near the Accountant General's Office on September 1 for dinner. It was alleged that after he complained about the quality of food, the hotel owner and some staff members assaulted him. A video of the incident later went viral on social media. On September 3, advocates had also staged a traffic blockade at Ekalavya Chauraha in protest against the incident.
