Adhikari vows stipend for women if BJP wins
Kolkata, Feb. 9 -- Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday promised a monthly stipend of Rs.3,000 to homemakers, a hike in the individual allocation under the Centre's housing scheme, a separate Rs.80,000 for installation of solar panels and at least 200 days of work under the rural employment scheme, if the party comes to power in West Bengal.
Adhikari, who is the leader of opposition in the assembly, made the announcement even as the party has sought public suggestions to frame its manifesto.
"If the BJP forms the government in April then all women will get Rs.3,000 from May 1. Currently, Rs.1.20 lakh is given to individuals under the Centre's housing scheme. We will hike this amount and give an additional Rs.80,000 for solar power," he told a gathering at Rajnagar in Birbhum district.
On Saturday, state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya said that his party would launch its election manifesto by February-end and it would be compiled on the basis of feedback from citizens. "Our Sankalpa Patra (manifesto) will be released by the end of February. For that, we will hold sankalpa yatras across Bengal and seek opinion from people," he said.
In its interim budget, or vote on account, presented on February 5, the TMC government hiked stipends and allowances for homemakers, students and the unemployed....
