Accidental gunfire injures bank employee in Varanasi branch
VARANASI, Oct. 17 -- A contractual bank employee was injured on Friday afternoon when a licenced revolver accidentally fell and discharged at Christ Nagar branch, Varanasi, of a nationalised bank. The victim, Anuradha Tripathi, is reported to be out of danger.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:40 pm at the bank's Chandmari branch under the Shivpur police station jurisdiction. According to police, a customer named Sanjeev Shukla, a project manager for an NHAI service lane project, visited the branch around 2:30 pm to update his account. Upon realising he was carrying his licenced firearm, he handed the weapon to the security guard on duty for safekeeping. The security guard reportedly placed the revolver in a desk drawer near the main entrance. Shortly thereafter, when bank employee Anuradha opened the drawer, the firearm fell and discharged, striking her in the right leg before hitting a wall.
The Varanasi Commissionerate Police confirmed they have received a complaint from bank management. Officials reported that law and order remain maintained at site, and a formal investigation into the circumstances of incident is underway. htc...
