Lucknow, May 1 -- A burst of wedding music, a moment of panic-- and 140 chickens dead. Police in Sultanpur have booked a DJ operator after a poultry farm owner claimed that a wedding procession's high-decibel soundtrack scared 140 chickens to death. The incident took place on April 25 in Dariyapur village, when a baraat, all drums and decibels, moved past the farm late evening-leaving behind what the owner Sabir Ali describes as a trail of silence. Police say the owner reported sudden panic inside the farm as the DJ system thundered past. By the time the music faded, the chickens had collapsed. A post-mortem by the district's veterinary officer Pramod Sharma pointed to cardiac arrest, apparently triggered by the noise. The FIR, promptly lodged against the DJ operator, Kavi Yadav, invokes provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 270 for public nuisance and Section 325 for mischief involving killing or rendering animals useless. Section 15 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, relating to violations of environmental norms such as noise pollution, has also been applied. He was arrested, granted bail the same day. Police said the investigation is ongoing to determine whether prescribed noise limits were breached....
