LUCKNOW, July 25 -- As many as 94 police personnel from across Uttar Pradesh completed a six-week Crime Scene Management training programme at the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science (UPSIFS), Lucknow, on Friday. The 42-day course, attended by police personnel from the rank of constable to inspector, covered crime scene management, forensic science and cyber investigation through classroom sessions conducted by subject experts. Addressing the valedictory function, former director general of police and chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission, Prashant Kumar, said forensic science plays a vital role in strengthening criminal investigations and the justice delivery system by applying scientific principles to crime detection. He stressed the importance of collecting high-quality evidence, including DNA, fingerprints and other physical exhibits, to ensure successful prosecution and conviction of offenders. Kumar said the state government established UPSIFS to provide world-class education in forensic science and develop skilled professionals for the field. He urged the trained officers to act as trainers in their respective districts and units to enhance the investigative capabilities of other police personnel. UPSIFS founding director GK Goswami said effective policing must combine legal procedures with scientific investigation.
