NAGPUR, Sept. 12 -- In a tragic road accident, nine people-including three children-were killed when a speeding truck collided with a vehicle early Friday morning on the Kolkata-Mumbai National Highway near Bhandara, roughly 125 km from Nagpur. The collision occurred near Bhau Dhaba in Pimpalgaon Sadak, Bhandara district. According to preliminary reports, the incident unfolded when an Eicher vehicle was exiting a petrol pump, causing the driver of a speeding truck approaching from behind to lose control and crash directly into it. The severe impact completely crushed the vehicle. Eight occupants died on the spot, and 13 others sustained injuries, five of them critically. One injured woman later succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital, bringing the death toll to nine. All of the deceased victims, which include young children, were female labourers hailing from Chhattisgarh who were traveling toward Nagpur. National Highway Police and local administration officials quickly arrived at the scene to execute rescue operations. The injured were rushed to the Bhandara Government Medical College for treatment. Although the crash temporarily disrupted highway traffic, police cleared the wreckage and restored regular traffic flow shortly after. Shailja Wagh Dandale, District Information Officer of Bhandara, confirmed that the deceased have been identified as: Jambai R. Verma (50), Minakshi Rajkumar Verma (26), Gayatri Rupesh Ukey (30), Sweety Rupesh Ukey (6), Dharya Rupesh Ukey (4), Sarita Verma (30), Gresha Rajkumar Verma (2), Ganeshiya Patel (22) and Rajkumar Patel (35).
