82-yr-old man killed by grandsons over land dispute
MEERUT, June 27 -- An 82-year-old man was allegedly shot dead and stabbed by his two grandsons while he was sitting at a chaupal in Karnawal town, under the Sarurpur police station limits in Meerut district, on Thursday night. According to police, the murder stemmed from a long-standing dispute over the division of 20 bighas of agricultural land.
According to police, the deceased, Vijaypal, was sitting with his companions at the chaupal when two masked men approached on foot. The assailants allegedly opened fire, with one bullet hitting Vijaypal in the chest. They then repeatedly stabbed him with knives before fleeing the scene as local residents rushed to the chaupal after hearing the gunshot.
Family members informed the Sarurpur police about the incident. Police personnel, accompanied by a forensic team, reached the spot and began collecting evidence. Rural superintendent of police Abhijeet Kumar and Sardhana circle officer Ashutosh Kumar also visited the crime scene and spoke to the victim's family members and local residents. The body was later sent for a post-mortem examination.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Avinash Pandey said the investigation revealed that Vijaypal was allegedly murdered by his grandsons, Nikki and Sagar. Three police teams have been formed to arrest the two accused grandsons, who have been absconding since the murder. Further investigation is underway....
