PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 18 -- Around 80% lawyers turned up to cast their votes in the Allahabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA) election on Thursday. Out of a total of 11,724 voters, 10,050 exercised their franchise amid tight security arrangements. A total of 263 candidates are in the fray. Chief returning officer and senior advocate SFA Naqvi said the polling passed off peacefully with the help of a team of polling observers. Naqvi further said the polling time was extended by half an hour (5:30 p.m.) because it began late. The district administration assured adequate police deployment for smooth conduct of the election and traffic management in the surrounding areas. A total of 20 entry gates were there for lawyers to enter the polling area. CCTVs were installed in the polling area and AI tools assisted in ensuring free and fair elections.
