Jaipur, June 3 -- In a step towards strengthening gharial conservation efforts, 80 gharial hatchlings have been successfully transferred to the Gharial Rearing Centre at Palighat, officials said on Tuesday. The young reptiles will be raised in a carefully designed environment aimed at ensuring their protection, growth and adaptation to conditions similar to their natural habitat. According to officials, the rearing centre has been upgraded with a range of modern facilities to support the healthy development of the hatchlings. Newly installed tanks have been equipped with thermal and daylight sources, advanced wave-makers and security cameras. Officials said these measures are intended to replicate the conditions of the gharials' natural ecosystem, helping them develop normal behavioural patterns and improving their chances of survival in the wild. To maintain high standards of water quality, the centre is using an advanced reverse osmosis water treatment system. The technology will ensure a continuous supply of clean water and create conditions that closely resemble the hatchlings' natural riverine habitat....
