Jhansi, May 31 -- A local court on Saturday sentenced eight men to life imprisonment in the 2018 daylight shooting near the Jhansi district court that left a bodyguard dead. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.1.75 lakh on each convict and acquitted eight others for lack of evidence. The judgment was delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge/Special Judge (EC) Anubhav Dwivedi. The case involved 16 accused who had been facing trial for the past eight years. Eight of them were held guilty during the final hearing on Friday. The convicts were found guilty in the attack on land developer Sanjay Verma's SUV on July 21, 2018.
