8 booked for cutting crash barriers on Delhi-Dehradun corridor
Meerut, Oct. 1 -- Eight hotel and dhaba operators have been booked for allegedly cutting crash barriers installed along the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor to create unauthorised access points for their establishments and later obstructing National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials who arrived to restore the barriers, officials said on Wednesday.The case was registered late Monday evening at Nangal police station on the complaint of Akash Singh, a site engineer with the NHAI's Project Implementation Unit (PIU), Roorkee.
The construction of the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor stretch between the Saharanpur bypass and Ganeshpur has been completed.
Beam-type crash barriers have been installed along the median and shoulders of the corridor as part of road-safety measures.According to the complaint, several hotel and dhaba operators along the route allegedly cut portions of the crash barriers at multiple locations to create private access routes for their customers and establishments.An NHAI team subsequently reached the corridor to reinstall the removed sections of the barriers.
However, the operators allegedly arrived at the site and obstructed the officials from carrying out the work, the complaint stated....
