LUCKNOW, Sept. 24 -- As many as 74 vehicles stationed in the no-parking zones outside the Sitapur district jail, from where former cabinet minister Azam Khan was released on Tuesday, were challaned by police on the day, officials said. Most of these vehicles belonged to Khan's supporters, who accompanied the veteran Samajwadi Party leader's sons Abdullah and Adeeb Azam there to welcome him. Police were on alert since the morning as Khan was being released from jail after 23 months. Sitapur circle officer (CO) Vinayak Bhosle said, "The city's roads are narrow. Due to Navratri, the roads are already crowded." "Prohibitory measures are enforced by the police due to the festival. The crowd is being removed from the roads." Another police official said the police administration monitored the area outside the jail using drone cameras. "Officials were alerted as a huge crowd was expected to gather outside the jail following the release of Azam Khan. As per a rough estimate, over 400 people had gathered and the entire road stretch was blocked due to inappropriately parked vehicles," he added....
