Mussoorie, Sept. 17 -- A seven-year-old boy was swept away after he slipped while playing near a ravine near Doni village in Tehri on Tuesday evening, said officials. His body was recovered from a river about 1 km from the spot on Wednesday after a search operation by local police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Police identifed the boy as Aarav. Over 60 roads across the state were closed as a result of light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy showers that were recorded across Uttarakhand up till 8.30 am on Wednesday, said officials. In Rudraprayag district, authorities temporarily halted uphill movement from Gaurikund towards Kedarnath for around two hours as a safety precaution. Sachin Panwar, assistant engineer with the Public Works Department (PWD) at Kedarnath, said persistent rockfalls had stopped on Tuesday night and the affected stretch was levelled to facilitate pilgrim movement. Pilgrims were being escorted in phases across the Chirbasa landslide zone, added the assistant engineer. Rudraprayag district magistrate Vishal Mishra visited the District Disaster Control Room on Tuesday evening to review arrangements along the yatra route and at the Kedarnath shrine through the CCTV surveillance network. "To prioritise the convenience and safety of the pilgrims, over 100 CCTV cameras have been installed across the entire yatra route, at various helipads, and within the Kedarnath shrine area, which broadcast a live feed directly to the Disaster Control Room, enabling regular and real-time monitoring of these critical zones," he said.
