LUCKNOW, May 15 -- For the first time, Lucknow University is all set to receive senior professors under the Career Advancement Scheme, as per the University Grants Commission (UGC) Regulations, 2018. The university sought applications from eligible professors; following a committee meeting, it will soon appoint senior professors. According to sources, in all, 69 faculty members from various departments are in consideration under CAS and related provisions of the UGC regulations. The highest number of entries, 13 faculty members, were received from the physics department, followed by chemistry, mathematics and astronomy departments, each with eight entries. Six professors from Hindi and modern Indian languages have applied for the post, while four professors from law and geology departments have also listed themselves. Three entries were recorded from zoology, political science, and applied economics, while two professors from biochemistry, economics, English and modern European languages, botany, and commerce also submitted their names. Departments with single entries include anthropology, statistics, linguistics, ancient Indian history and archaeology, Urdu, sociology, and journalism and mass communication. Prof JP Saini, vice-chancellor, said that the selection and evaluation process strictly follows the norms prescribed by the UGC Regulations 2018, which emphasise academic performance indicators, research publications, teaching experience, and contributions to institutional development. "The UGC framework introduced higher benchmarks for promotions and appointments to senior academic positions, including the post of senior professor, with an emphasis on research quality and academic excellence. It is an important milestone that could further enhance and strengthen our university's academic leadership.
