Lucknow, Sept. 19 -- The transport department on Friday inspected 66 school vehicles at various schools in Lucknow as part of a drive to check compliance with safety norms for schoolchildren. The inspection was conducted by the enforcement team led by ARTO (enforcement) Alok Kumar Yadav. Officials checked vehicle permits, fitness certificates, insurance, pollution -under- control certificates, drivers' licences and other mandatory safety requirements. Of the 66 vehicles inspected, 17 were challaned for violations related to expired fitness certificates, insurance and PUC certificates, according to the transport department. The department said inspections of school vehicles would continue as part of its enforcement drive and urged school managements and vehicle operators to ensure that all vehicles ferrying children comply with prescribed safety standards....
