6-yr-old girl killed, elderly woman hurt as boundary wall collapses in Lko
LUCKNOW, June 14 -- A six-year-old girl died and an octogenarian woman sustained injuries after a dilapidated boundary wall of a vacant plot collapsed in Lucknow's Madeyganj area on Saturday, police said. The incident occurred in Bhandutola locality where the wall suddenly caved in, trapping both victims.
According to a police statement, the victims were identified as Zoya, 6, and Nazo, around 80. Following the incident, locals raised an alarm, after which a police team rushed to the scene and carried out a rescue operation.
"Both victims were rushed for medical treatment. Zoya, who was found unconscious, was initially taken to a private hospital in Khadra and later referred to Balrampur Hospital because of the critical nature of her injuries. However, doctors at the government hospital declared her dead on arrival," the police statement said.
Nazo sustained injuries in the incident and is currently undergoing treatment at Balrampur Hospital. Doctors are closely monitoring her condition, police said.
Police have taken custody of the child's body and initiated inquest proceedings.
The body will be sent for a post-mortem examination after the completion of legal formalities.
Officials said further action will be taken in accordance with law, while an inquiry is underway to ascertain responsibility for the dilapidated condition of the boundary wall. Authorities are also verifying the ownership details of the vacant plot and investigating whether any negligence on the part of the owner or responsible authorities contributed to the fatal incident....
