PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 4 -- A six-year-old boy died and an eight-year-old girl was injured after a gate, along with a portion of a wall, collapsed on them in the Dahilamau area of Pratapgarh on Saturday evening, said police. The deceased, Kartik, was the son of Ashish Sharma, a resident of Buknapur in Mandhata who works in Mumbai. The boy had come to the city with his mother two days ago and was staying at his paternal aunt's house in Dahilamau. Police said Kartik was playing and swinging on the gate when it suddenly collapsed along with the adjoining wall, trapping him beneath the debris. Eight-year-old Shivanya, daughter of a neighbour Pradeep Mishra, was also caught in the collapse and sustained injuries. Hearing the commotion, local residents rushed to the spot, removed the debris and took Kartik to the medical college where doctors declared him dead.
