54 encounters reported in last 5 years, say cops
Jodhpur, March 11 -- Rajasthan has witnessed 54 police encounters involving alleged cow smugglers over the past five years, resulting in injuries to 13 accused and nine police personnel, according to official data of the state home department.
The data covers the period from January 2021 to December 2025. During this time, police arrested 110 persons accused of cow smuggling, while 63 suspects remain absconding across various districts.
Deeg district recorded the highest number of confrontations, with police and smugglers coming face to face 22 times. The district also has the highest number of absconders, with 51 accused still at large.
In Alwar, 12 encounters were reported, leading to the arrest of 31 alleged smugglers, while six remain absconding.
In Bhiwadi, seven encounters resulted in 20 arrests, with six accused still on the run. Dausa reported five such incidents in which 17 alleged smugglers were arrested.
Khairthal-Tijara district recorded four encounters and seven arrests. In Bharatpur, one incident was reported, resulting in the arrest of a single accused.
The Home Department in a reply to the assembly session concluded on Tuesday informed that the state government has initiated steps to seize properties allegedly acquired through illegal cow smuggling activities. However, officials indicated that the process is still at a preliminary stage. In Bhiwadi district, in a case registered at Tijara police station, proceedings have been initiated against an accused, Sahun, under Section 107 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the matter has been placed before the court.
Property attachment can proceed after court orders are obtained. In another case registered at Tapukara police station, authorities are examining records related to properties allegedly owned by arrested accused Zakir and Salim alias Kala. Similarly, in a case registered at Bhiwadi Phase-III police station, police are gathering information regarding properties purportedly acquired through criminal activities by four arrested....
