LUCKNOW, July 27 -- Bharatiya Janata Party's state NGO Cell organised a tribute ceremony at the Smritika War Memorial in Lucknow Cantonment, where 527 lamps were lit in memory of the soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil War. BJP state vice-president Neeraj Singh, mayor Sushma Kharkwal, MLAs Neeraj Bora and OP Srivastava, MLC Pawan Singh Chauhan and Ramchandra Pradhan paid floral tributes to martyrs by lighting the lamps. Family members of Kargil war heroes, including those of Param Vir Chakra awardee Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey and martyr Sunil Jang, were felicitated with shawls and bouquets. Addressing gathering, Neeraj Singh said the nation would always remain indebted to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice to safeguard India's borders. He said the lighting of 527 lamps was a tribute to the 527 soldiers who laid down their lives in the Kargil War.
