Haridwar, Oct. 24 -- The Haridwar police have formed five joint teams of the Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) and local police to investigate the murder of a 25-year-old woman whose charred body was found near the Haridwar-Najibabad highway last week. Senior officials said the case has been marked as a high-priority "blind murder" and multiple leads are being pursued through forensic and digital evidence. The partially burnt body was discovered on October 18 by passersby in a secluded area near Umeshwar Dham and Old Khaira Dhaba, along the Shyampur stretch of the highway. Police immediately sealed the area and began forensic collection of evidence. "The postmortem report confirms that the woman was strangulated before being set on fire," said Circle Officer (City) Shishu Pal Singh Negi, adding that the crime appears to have been committed elsewhere.
