5 BJP, one BSP member elected unopposed to Agra civic body EC
AGRA, July 20 -- Five BJP members and one BSP member were elected unopposed to the Agra Nagar Nigam executive committee on Saturday after rival candidates withdrew their nominations, averting a contest.
The election was held to fill six vacancies in the 12-member executive committee following the completion of the tenure of six members last month. The Agra Nagar Nigam House was convened for the election, and the proceedings continued till late in the day. Initially, the nominations indicated the possibility of a contest. The BJP fielded six candidates-Atul Awasthi, Praveena Rajawat, Hemant Prajapati, Hemendra Pal Singh, Ved Prakash Goswami and Ravi Kumar-while the BSP nominated Nidhi Singh, Pushpa Kumari and Mata Prasad.
As the prospect of voting emerged, the BJP called its two MPs from Agra and Fatehpur Sikri, who are ex-officio members of the House. However, following discussions between the parties, some candidates withdrew their nominations, resulting in a consensus. Mayor Hemlata Diwakar presided over the proceedings....
