PRAYAGRAJ, July 23 -- A joint team of Dhumanganj and Puramufti police arrested five accused on Tuesday and claimed to have solved both a robbery and a theft case. Police recovered six pairs of stolen silver toe rings, Rs 19,000 in cash, two mobile phones and two motorcycles from their possession. According to police, Yogesh Verma, a resident of Sulemsarai, runs a jewellery shop in Jhalwa. On the night of July 17, he was returning home after closing his shop when he was intercepted near the Sulemsarai petrol pump by six men riding two motorcycles. The miscreants allegedly threatened him with a country-made pistol and snatched his bag before fleeing. Following the incident, Dhumanganj police registered a case and launched an investigation. Using CCTV footage and other technical evidence, the police tracked the suspects. Acting on a tip-off, a joint police team arrested Waqas, Dilshad and Mohammad Arman, residents of Mariadih, along with Suraj Verma of Fatehpur Ghat and Rishu Soni Verma of Khaga in Fatehpur, near Nehru Park on Tuesday. Their disclosures also helped police solve a theft case registered at Puramufti police station. Panic gripped residents near Surval village in the Shankargarh police station area of Prayagraj on Wednesday afternoon after a moving Swift car suddenly caught fire near a petrol pump at Surval Chandel. According to eyewitnesses, smoke began emerging from the vehicle while it was in motion. The driver pulled the car over to the roadside and jumped out. The driver's timely action helped him escape unharmed....
