48 hours on, two Aliganj fire accused still untraced
LUCKNOW, June 25 -- More than 48 hours after the Aliganj building fire that killed 15 people and injured nine, Lucknow Police are yet to arrest two of the six accused named in the FIR, including co-owner Surendra Pratap Shukla.
The delay has raised questions over the progress of the investigation into one of the city's deadliest fire tragedies in recent years.
Police had arrested four accused on the night of the incident. They were remanded to 14-day judicial custody on Tuesday. However, Surendra and Dhirendra remain out of police custody despite search operations.
When contacted by HT, additional DCP (North) Twinkle Jain, who is overseeing the probe, did not respond.
ACP Aliganj Shashi Prakash Mishra, however, said police teams were continuing efforts to trace the remaining accused.
The four arrested accused are Virendra Prasad Shukla, co-owner of the building; Ram Krishna Upadhyay, owner of the pet shop operating from the premises; Tushank Krishna Jaiswal, director of the animation centre functioning there; and Suresh Kumar Sahu, associated with networking work in the building....
