450 Nepali youths rescued from alleged job scam
Gorakhpur, May 31 -- In a joint operation by Indian and Nepali authorities, more than 450 Nepali youths, including minors, were rescued from Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district and handed over to Nepal Police at the Sunauli border on Saturday.
Officials said the victims had allegedly been lured with promises of lucrative jobs and brought from different parts of Nepal. Investigators suspect they were trapped in a network-marketing racket that required recruits to pay membership fees and bring in more members.
Kushinagar SP Keshav Kumar said the operation was launched following complaints from families and intelligence inputs. Police alleged that many victims were kept under pressure and threatened with financial penalties if they failed to recruit others.
Nepal Police said information suggested nearly 1,000 Nepali youths may have been brought to the area. The Uttar Pradesh STF has launched an investigation into the racket's organisers, financial transactions and cross-border links. HTC...
