CHENNAI, Sept. 7 -- A 45-year-old Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) functionary was allegedly murdered by a group of five people in Chennai's Adyar, police said on Sunday, adding that all the accused have been arrested. According to police, the incident, that appears to have stemmed from previous enmity, took place late on Saturday. The deceased was identified as S Kannan, a resident of Vannandurai area (in Adyar) and ran a business of renting cars to IT companies in Chennai and neighbourhood districts. Police said the deceased had multiple cases registered against him, with charges including that of murder. "Kannan was attacked by five unidentified individuals on Saturday who arrived on two-wheelers, attacked him with knives and fled. He died on the spot," a police officer said. The accused were identified as Bharani (20), Rakesh (20), Naresh (20), Manikandan (20), Hariharan (20), and were arrested under various sections of the BNS, the officer said.
