Rudrapur/Haldwani, Sept. 28 -- Nainital Police are identifying 400 to 500 students who allegedly took part in an unauthorised procession that led to violence, traffic disruption and law-and-order problems in Haldwani on Friday during campaigning for the student union elections at Motiram Baburam Government Post Graduate (MBPG) College, officials said on Sunday. The student union elections at the college are scheduled to be held on September 29. Police have registered an FIR for allegedly taking out the procession without permission on Nainital Road after the nomination process at MBPG College. Police are examining CCTV camera footage and other evidence to identify those who participated in the procession. "Police had instructed all contestants and their supporters to follow the Lyngdoh Committee guidelines during the student election process. Despite this, students created law-and-order problems. After lodging an FIR, we are now identifying 400 to 500 students who took part in the procession through CCTV camera footage," said Manoj Katyal, SP City, Haldwani. According to police, contestants and their supporters took out a procession following the nomination process, leading to a road blockade.
