Meerut, Sept. 25 -- Two Uttar Pradesh Police personnel and two other Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a 24-year-old woman from Haryana at a farmhouse in Amroha district, police said. The alleged incident took place in the Hasanpur area. The four accused included a sub-inspector and a head constable posted at Hasanpur police station, and a CRPF sub-inspector and head constable. According to Amroha superintendent of police Lakhan Singh Yadav, the woman, a resident of Fatehabad in Haryana, was allegedly contacted on September 20 by a female acquaintance and asked to meet CRPF sub-inspector Mohit, a resident of Saurang village, in Muzaffarnagar district. A trip was planned to religious places in Amroha. The woman met Mohit in Sonipat, Haryana, on September 21, following which they travelled to Meerut. Mohit's colleague, CRPF head constable Lalaram Yadav, a resident of Rajasthan's Alwar district, subsequently joined them. On the evening of September 22, Mohit and Yadav allegedly took the woman to Hasanpur in a car and picked up sub-inspector Sanjay Tomar on the way. The three men then allegedly took her to a farmhouse on the Atrasi-Hasanpur road, where they rented two rooms. Police said that head constable Pramod allegedly arranged food and liquor for the group at the farmhouse. According to the woman's complaint, Mohit, Yadav and Tomar subsequently took turns sexually assaulting her. Pramod later allegedly entered the room and attempted to rape her, but she managed to push him out and lock the door. The woman then searched online for a police helpline number and contacted the police at around 6 am on Wednesday. Police teams from Hasanpur and Rajabpur police stations reached the farmhouse, rescued the woman and apprehended all four accused. "Based on the victim's complaint, an FIR has been registered against the four accused under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for abduction or enticement and gangrape. All four have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody," SP Lakhan Singh Yadav said. Following the arrests, departmental proceedings have been initiated against the local sub-inspector after his suspension. A report has also been sent to senior CRPF authorities recommending strict disciplinary action against the two CRPF personnel, the SP said. Hasanpur Kotwali in-charge Amar Pal Singh said the farmhouse where the alleged incident took place reportedly belongs to an independent MLA from Uttarakhand. Police have questioned the property's manager as part of the investigation. The case has also triggered a political response.
