4 men held for Kasol shooting; SIT formed to probe incident
Shimla, June 1 -- Four people from Punjab have been arrested while search is on for a fifth suspect in the shooting incident that took place in the popular tourist destination of Kasol in the Manikaran valley of Kullu district, police officers aware of the matter said on Sunday, adding that a special Investigation team (SIT) has been formed to probe the incident.
According to police, the incident took place in the Kasol market when an argument broke out between a local youth and tourists from Punjab over parking on Saturday. The dispute escalated, and a taxi driver, Yuvraj, was shot in the leg by the one of the tourists.
Kullu Superintendent of Police Madan Lal Kaushal told media on Sunday, "Police acted swiftly and arrested four accused. Efforts are underway to arrest the fifth"
The accused were identified as Manpreet Singh (29) from Tarn Taran, Aman Randhawa (22) from Amritsar, Sukhmandeep Singh (17) from Ferozepur and Karandeep Singh (22) from Gurdaspur. A fifth suspect, identified as Tamanpradeep Singh from Batala, remains at large. The weapon and the vehicle involved have also been seized, officers said.
Police said Yuvraj was taken to a local hospital by his friend from where he was referred to AIIMS Bilaspur for further treatment. His condition is stable, they said.
Kaushal said, "To ensure a thorough investigation, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by the DSP Headquarters has been constituted."
He added, "The weapon, a .30 bore unlicensed gun was seized and sent for forensic examination."
The SP said a case has been registered under relevant BNS sections and the Arms Act. Police have also enhanced checking in the area....
